The student has shown steady improvement across the terms, in English. Homework completion is consistent with a few late submissions. Overall, excellent progress!
In Term 1, students explore storytelling as a way of understanding the human condition. Through close study of a novel or film, they examine themes such as identity, resilience, and transformation. Analytical responses focus on how narrative techniques, language choices, and character development are used to explore complex ideas. Creative writing tasks allow students to craft short stories with thematic depth and controlled structure
Term 2 focuses on persuasive writing and the analysis of media texts. Students engage with speeches, opinion pieces, and news media to examine how language is used to influence, manipulate, or persuade. They explore bias, tone, and audience positioning in current issues. Writing tasks challenge students to develop clear arguments supported by evidence and rhetorical strategies, both in written and spoken form.
In Term 3, students delve into poetry and reflective writing, engaging with a variety of poetic voices, styles, and cultural perspectives. They analyse how poetic techniques such as symbolism, enjambment, and contrast convey emotion and meaning. Students produce original poems and reflective texts that demonstrate creativity, self-awareness, and a refined control of language.
The final term introduces students to dramatic literature, focusing on plays that raise moral or social questions. They examine how playwrights use dramatic conventions, dialogue, and structure to build tension and explore conflict. Students participate in performance and interpretation, as well as produce analytical essays responding to the textÆs themes and dramatic impact. This term reinforces critical thinking and clarity of expression in preparation for senior English.
